In 2021, we have joined the RSPO membership as part of our sustainability initiative. We officially obtained the RSPO distributor license in 23rd March 2021.
RSPO, also known as the roundtable on sustainable palm oil, aims to transform markets to make sustainable palm oil the norm. It is a non-profit organization comprising of oil palm growers, palm oil processors and traders, consumer goods manufacturers, environmental NGOs, social NGOs, banks/investors and retailers. The RSPO guidelines state that producers should respect and consider local people, guarantee that no ‘high conservation value’ (HCV) areas are cleared, and minimise environmental impacts of production.
Following these principles and criteria can help to minimise the negative impacts of palm oil cultivation on the environment and communities.
Palm oil is an extremely efficient and versatile renewable raw material. It produces more vegetable oil per land area compared to other equivalent vegetable oil crops. Substituting palm oil with other vegetable oils may create similar or even larger environmental and social problems.
As palm oil remains in high demand globally, it has been the major driver of deforestation of some of the world’s most biodiverse forests, destroying the habitat of already endangered species such as the Orangutan and Sumatran rhino.
