Learn More About Si-QAC: The Trending 24/7 Disinfectant

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the demand for disinfectants have increased rapidly and the global disinfectants market is forecasted to increase by $0.18 billion in 2021 at a compound annual growth rate of 27.3%. This growth is mainly driven by companies recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic and adjusting to the new normal.

Have you ever heard of Si-QAC?

Si-QAC is a quaternary ammonium silicone compound that acts as antimicrobials. It is a long-lasting disinfectant that provides surfaces with long-lasting residual effectiveness against a broad spectrum of microorganisms.

Some of the microorganisms killed includes:

  • Staphylococcus aureus / 6538
  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa / 15442
  • Salmonella enterica / 15442
  • Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) / 33592
  • Trichophyton mentagrophytes / 9533
  • Avian Influenza A (H5N1)*
  • Human Coronavirus Strain 229 E* / VR740

How does it work?

The residue provides long-lasting disinfection as the silane end reacts with many surfaces upon drying leaving a durable film of alkyl quaternary ammonium salt on the surface. This results in potent antibacterial and antiviral properties.

It is unique from other disinfectants as this invisible layer attacks the pathogen upon contact with the surface for a long period of time whereas traditional disinfectants are only effective at the time of application.

Instead of using poisons to create cidal kills, Si-QAC uses a mechanical kill to puncture the cells membrane then neutralizes the cell with a positive charge. This mechanical kill is repeated as long as Si-QAC is active on the treated surface.

study has shown that Si-QAC has significantly reduced the virus on artificially contaminated personal protective equipment (PPE) with either influenza virus or Salmonella and the antimicrobial effects lasted for 7 days. This suggests that the disinfectant is effective in reducing pathogen contamination for the long term.
