How to Prevent Fungus and Bacteria Growth on Surfaces?

Why do you have to be concerned about bacteria and fungus on surfaces?

Bacteria, fungus and various microorganisms grow on surfaces such as walls, floor, tabletop, tableware and toys etc. Not only do they pose a threat to human health, but can also cause discolouration on surfaces. How should you effectively prevent such bacteria growth around you?

However, the problem can be minimized if the surfaces are treated with an anti-microbial agent such as BACTIBLOCK which kills bacteria and fungus.

What is BACTIBLOCK?

BACTIBLOCK, manufactured by Laboratories Argenol is an additive made of inorganic, inert and recyclable ingredients using silver as antimicrobial agent.

Silver is a natural active ingredient for preventing infections. It is specially developed to protect materials from deterioration resulting from the growth of bacteria, fungus and other microorganisms.

Some of its key benefits include its non-irritant feature, no toxic added and yet high efficacy in small dosages of less than 0.5%.

How does BACTIBLOCK kill microorganism?

BACTIBLOCK is based on two proprietary technologies:

  • Clay compounds treated with silver and
  • Amorphous glass treated with silver or without silver for alimentary applications

BACTIBLOCK can be dispersed in materials homogeneously. The active substance then migrates to surfaces by capillarity. When microorganisms get in contact with silver ions, bacteria destruction is achieved through cellular membrane destruction, DNA replication inhibition or cellular respiration block.

The below picture shows that using clay compound treated with silver, the active ingredient migrated to the surfaces and stayed on the surfaces throughout the lifetime of the materials.

How does Maha make use of this technology?

BACTIBLOCK can be incorporated into the below materials.

  • Plastics: Thermoplastic / Thermosetting
  • Sanitary Ware
  • Ceramic materials and tiles
  • Paints and varnishes
  • Floorings
  • Building products: mortars, cement, joints
  • Adhesives, Glues and sealants
  • Textiles

BACTIBLOCK also supplied in masterbatch form for use in the manufacturing of plastics.
