Sodium Gluconate As a Set Retarder For Concrete

Sodium gluconate, also called sodium salt of gluconic acid, is produced by the fermentation of glucose. The appearance is white or light-yellow crystal powder. It is very soluble in water but insoluble in alcohol. It has features of non-toxic, non-corrosive, and readily biodegradable. It can be used as a retarder, water quality stabilizer, surface cleaning agent, and cement blending agent. It is widely used in many different industries, such as construction, cleaning, textile and oil drilling etc.

SODIUM GLUCONATE APPLICATION

Improve the workability and strength of concrete

As a concrete retarder

Adding a small amount of sodium gluconate to cement can delay the initial and final setting time of concrete without affecting the strength of concrete. At the same time, it can also extend the working time of concrete.

The amount used is usually 0.15% or less. With the use of sodium gluconate, the water/cement ratio can be reduced, which will increase the strength of concrete.
