Excellent Replacement for Snail Mucin as Moisturising Agent: Mucogen

Are you familiar with snail mucin? It is a well-known moisturizing ingredient in mucus cosmetics. Snail mucin-based skincare products contribute to one of the largest shares in cosmetics exports in Korea. So, what is so good about Snail mucin?

What is Mucogen??
Mucogen is a marine plant-derived ingredient which are extracted from Seaweed, Fusiformis Kelp, Enteromorpha Compressa and Gulf-weed. It is a replacement from snail mucin which is an animal-derived ingredient. It is based on the mucus produced by the plants. When leaves or stems of marine plants get hurt by coming tides or sand, the plants will self-produce mucus to protect itself against penetration of microbes.

Efficacy Testings and Findings
According to the moisturizing test, 5% Mucogen improve skin moisture level over the 2 hours as compared to control bar! Additionally, moisture level still remained high (over 33au) after 1 hour! This implies that Mucogen has an excellent moisturizing effect!
According to the Elasticity test, only 5% Mucogen was required to see the results! Elasticity of our skin improved from 42au to 82au in 15 mins! This is almost twice of the improvement made! Furthermore, the elasticity effect still remained high after 2 hours (70au)! This indicates that Mucogen shows great effect on improving skin firming!
According to the Skin topography image, our skin texture improved and becoming smoother after 3 hours of Mucogen application. Before applying Mucogen onto our skin, the 3D image shows an irregular skin surface. (Left). On the other hand, after Mucogen application, 3D image shows a flat skin surface (Right)!

- Heat phase A until the solution is homogenous at 70 °C, followed by addition of Mucogen
- Heat phase B until the solution is homogenous at 70 °C
- Add phase B into phase A, mix the two solutions until it is homogenous
- Lower the temperature to 40°C and add phase C. Continue mixing until homogenous mixtures obtained.
- Add phase D. Mix homogenously.
- Add phase E, F and G, continue mixing to obtain homogenously mixed lotion!
