Have you ever countered whitish patches appear on the colored mortar?
(Flow & Levelling)
Coloured mortar is made with a combination of Portland cement, hydrated lime, sand and colour pigments. After sometime, a whitish colour salt deposits (efflorescence) may appeared on the surface of coloured mortar and caused discoloration. Repair and cleaning work are required to restored the colour mortar to their original colour which cost money.
Efflorescence is caused by water-soluble salts present in the mortar. When rain water or ground water migrated into the mortar, it dissolved the salts and carry them to the mortar surfaces. The moisture will then evaporated off and cause the salts to crystallize and deposit on the surfaces, resulting in efflorescence.
How to prevent the problem?
ELOTEX® ERA 200 is an efflorescence controlling additive from Nouryon. The benefits are :
- Higher efficiency and reduces severe efflorescence.
- Quick hydrophobic response at surface (once touch dry).
- Enhanced efflorescence control from early exposure to water.
The below test panels showed that the efflorescence can be prevented with only 0.2% of ELOTEX® ERA200.
Maha is the distributor of ELOTEX® products in Cambodia, Singapore, Indonesia and Sri Lanka.
